Gutter Materials We Install
Gutters can be made from a variety of materials including cast iron, aluminum, vinyl, copper, and zinc. Each material offers different benefits at various price points. We help you select the best gutter materials for your home, budget, and climate requirements.
ALUMINUM GUTTERS
Most Long Island homes use aluminum gutters because they deliver the best combination of performance, durability, and value. Aluminum gutters are lightweight, rust-resistant, and available in various colors and finishes matching your home’s exterior perfectly.
Unlike steel, aluminum doesn’t rust or corrode even after decades of exposure to moisture and harsh weather. Aluminum is also lightweight, which makes installation easier and reduces stress on your fascia boards. This lightweight construction prevents sagging over time—a common problem with heavier metal gutters.
We fabricate seamless aluminum gutters on-site using professional equipment to fit your home’s specific dimensions. Your new gutters provide clean, streamlined appearance while protecting against water damage, erosion, and basement flooding. Aluminum gutters come in numerous colors matching your home’s exterior, and they never need painting.
COPPER GUTTERS
Copper gutters have a long lifespan of over 50 years with proper maintenance, making them one of the most durable gutter materials available. This exceptional lifespan makes copper gutters a one-time investment significantly enhancing your home’s value and appearance.
Copper gutters are durable and develop a beautiful patina over time, shifting from bright metallic finish to more muted greenish hue. This natural aging process creates distinctive character while protecting the copper beneath. Many homeowners consider this patina development one of copper’s most attractive features for their gutter project.
Copper gutters require professional welding and professional assistance for proper installation. They cost more per linear foot than aluminum gutters at various price points. However, the low maintenance needs, exceptional durability, and timeless appearance make copper an excellent choice for homeowners seeking beautiful, long-lasting gutters that enhance their home’s curb appeal.
STEEL GUTTERS
Galvanized steel gutters use steel coated with protective zinc layer preventing rust and corrosion. Zinc gutters are low maintenance and develop a natural patina that protects against corrosion over time. Steel gutters stand up exceptionally well to heavy rainfall and strong winds common during Long Island nor’easters and severe weather events.
Steel gutters are stronger than aluminum, making them ideal for homes in areas with heavy snow loads or homes with large roof size concentrating significant water flow. You can also paint galvanized steel gutters using stainless steel screws and sheet metal screws to match your home’s exterior precisely.
While steel gutter systems are built to last, the protective zinc coating can wear away over years of exposure. Once zinc wears through, rust can develop. Regular inspections and gutter cleaning ensure your steel gutters perform effectively for decades.
VINYL GUTTERS
Vinyl gutters are lightweight, inexpensive, and resistant to rust and corrosion. But their durability is a major concern. Long Island weather conditions warp vinyl in the summer and make it brittle in the winter. Vinyl gutters also frequently sag or break under the weight of snow or ice.
We feel that Long Island homes need a more durable gutter solution. If your home currently has vinyl gutters, we urge you to contact us for a better gutter alternative.
Why We Don’t Recommend Vinyl
Vinyl gutters are lightweight, inexpensive, and resistant to rust. Vinyl gutters are the least expensive option and are easy to install at lower price points. However, their durability is a major concern, especially in Long Island’s climate.
Vinyl gutters can become brittle in extreme temperatures—Long Island weather conditions warp vinyl in summer heat and make it brittle in winter cold. Vinyl gutters frequently sag or break under snow loads and ice weight. They also become increasingly brittle with age, leading to cracks and failures requiring gutter replacement.
We believe Long Island homes deserve more durable gutter solutions. If your home currently has vinyl gutters showing signs of deterioration, contact us for better alternatives using aluminum gutters, copper gutters, or steel construction.

Gutter Styles:
4 Styles to Choose From
What Are Your Options?
K-STYLE GUTTERS
K-style gutters are the most popular residential gutter style. K-style gutters resemble crown molding when viewed from the side, hence their name. This design provides excellent capacity while maintaining clean, attractive appearance complementing most architectural styles.
K-style gutters are highly durable and can manage significant water flow and handle good water volume from large roof areas during heavy rainfall events. The flat back mounts directly against fascia boards using fascia brackets, providing stable installation and clean appearance. K-style gutters are versatile and suitable for modern homes.
However, K-style gutters can clog at sharp angles where debris tends to accumulate. Regular gutter cleaning prevents these issues and maintains proper water flow through the gutter system.
We fabricate K-style gutters in various gutter materials and colors, ensuring perfect match to your home’s exterior. Whether aluminum gutters, copper gutters, or steel, K-style gutters deliver reliable performance protecting your home.
BOX GUTTERS
Box gutters are deeper and wider than K-style gutters, allowing them to channel more water away from structures. This makes them particularly effective for homes with expansive or flat roofs generating concentrated water flow during heavy rain.
Box gutters feature simple, boxy shape that’s easier to clean than K-style profiles. This accessibility makes gutter cleaning simpler and helps prevent debris buildup from leaves and other materials. Box gutters are preferred for historic homes requiring period-appropriate appearance.
We typically install box gutters on commercial buildings, historic homes, or residences with special drainage requirements. Their substantial capacity handles even the heaviest Long Island rainfall without overflow or standing water issues.
HALF ROUND GUTTERS
Half-round gutters offer classic, timeless appearance particularly suited to traditional and historic homes. Half-round gutters are traditionally used for historic homes and have a smooth shape that reduces clogs, although they hold less water than K-style systems.
Their semi-circular profile allows water to flow freely, reducing likelihood of clogs compared to K-style gutters. The open design makes half-round gutters easier to clean and maintain during regular gutter cleaning.
However, half-round gutters require more support brackets spaced approximately 3 feet apart to provide adequate support for the gutters and stay properly positioned. This means professional installation is essential for reliable performance and avoiding sagging.
We often install half-round copper gutters on historic Long Island homes, where authentic appearance matters. The combination of copper material and half round profile creates beautiful, period-appropriate gutters that will last generations.
YANKEE GUTTERS
Yankee gutters, commonly found on historic homes, are integrated into the roof structure itself rather than hanging from fascia boards using brackets. These built-in gutters provide excellent proper drainage when properly maintained and installed correctly.
Yankee gutters require specialized expertise for installation and repair. The integration with roof structure means any problems can quickly lead to leaks and water damage affecting both roof and fascia. Regular maintenance and gutter cleaning prevent these issues and ensures proper drainage.
We provide expert Yankee gutter inspection, repair, and gutter replacement services. If your historic Long Island home has Yankee gutters needing attention, our experienced team delivers work preserving your home’s character while ensuring reliable performance.
Our Professional Gutter Installation Process
The County Roofing Systems Process
1. Professional Assessment
We begin every gutter project with thorough assessment of your home. We examine roof size, pitch, and valleys to calculate proper gutter sizing. We evaluate fascia boards condition, identifying any repairs needed before installation. We discuss your preferences regarding gutter materials, colors, and optional gutter guards or additional features.
2. Custom Measurement Using Right Tools
We take precise measurements of your roofline using a tape measure and chalk line, documenting every angle, corner, and section requiring gutters. These exact measurements ensure seamless gutters fit perfectly without gaps or misalignment. We identify the highest point and downspout location for optimal water flow.
es varies based on several factors:
Roof size and complexity
Number of levels and pitch steepness
Accessibility challenges and higher labor costs for difficult access
Roof type (asphalt shingles, clay tile roofs, metal, different roofing materials)
Type of inspection (basic roof inspection vs. comprehensive assessment)
3. On-Site Fabrication of Seamless Gutters
We fabricate your seamless aluminum gutters right at your home using professional equipment and right tools. This on-site fabrication eliminates seams along straight runs—the most common failure points in traditional gutter pieces. Fewer seams mean fewer potential leaks and longer-lasting protection.
Many homeowners opt for professional gutter services to ensure proper installation and avoid the risks associated with DIY projects. DIY gutter installation can save money, but it requires the right skills and tools to avoid costly mistakes and water damage.
4. Proper Slope Calculation for Water Flow
Gutters must slope correctly toward downspouts for proper drainage. Too little slope and standing water pools in gutters. Too much slope and water moves too quickly, potentially overshooting downspouts during heavy rain.
We calculate optimal proper slope for your specific installation—typically 1/4 inch drop per 10 feet of gutter run. This ensures efficient water flow without standing water or overflow issues.
5. Expert Installation with Proper Brackets
Our experienced professionals install gutters securely to fascia boards using proper spacing and support with fascia brackets. We use a drill and corrosion-resistant screws including stainless steel screws to attach each bracket firmly to the fascia board.
We space the brackets approximately 3 feet apart to provide adequate support for the gutters preventing sagging even under heavy snow loads and ice accumulation. Brackets are secured using lag screws and sheet metal screws for maximum strength.
6. Cutting and Assembling Gutter Sections
We cut the gutter sections to the appropriate sizes using a hacksaw or a power saw with a metal-cutting blade. Each gutter section is precisely measured and cut to ensure perfect fit along your roofline.
We attach downspout outlets over the holes where the downspouts will be attached and secure them with screws or pop rivets. End caps are installed on gutter section ends using pop rivets and sealant for watertight seals.
7. Sealing Joints and Connections
We apply a high-quality waterproof sealant to all joints, seams, and connections in the gutter system including strip miter joints and end caps. We seal all joints and end caps using high-quality sealants that remain flexible through temperature extremes. This prevents leaks at connections—the most common leak points in gutter systems.
We remove any old caulk from previous installations before applying fresh sealant ensuring proper adhesion and long-lasting seals.
8. Downspout Positioning for Proper Drainage
We position downspouts strategically to direct water away from your home’s foundation. We typically install one downspout for every 35-40 feet of gutter length, though high-flow areas may need additional downspouts based on roof size and local regulations.
We extend downspouts at least 6-10 feet from your foundation, ensuring water disperses safely away from your home. If needed, we install underground drainage systems for even better water management and proper drainage.
9. Final Testing and System Verification
Before completing installation, we test the system by running water through the gutters to ensure it flows smoothly toward the downspouts without pooling or standing water. We verify correct slope, check all seams and joints for leaks, and confirm downspouts discharge water well away from your foundation with proper water flow.
Gutters should be inspected for leaks, cracks, or loosened connections during this testing phase to ensure everything is installed correctly.
10. Clean-Up and Customer Walkthrough
We clean your property thoroughly, removing all installation debris, gutter pieces, and materials. We then walk you through your new gutter system, explaining maintenance requirements including gutter cleaning frequency and answering any questions.
Gutters should typically be cleaned about twice a year, though this will depend on the amount of debris that tends to accumulate in your area. Debris will find its way into your gutters, and someone will have to climb a ladder and clean them out, making gutter guards a valuable addition.
